SANTA
ANA, CA (August 28, 2002) - Broadband TelCom Power, Inc., (BTCP) once again pushes
the current density limits of the quarter brick by introducing its 60 Amps SHQ
series.
This new quarter brick family answers the continued demands in
telecommunication and industrial applications that require DC/DC converters with
high current output at low voltages. The SHQ series, utilizing BTCP's patented
and patent pending technologies, offer: 1) high current density with output current
up to 60 Amps at 1.8Vdc and 1.5Vdc and 50 Amps at 3.3Vdc and 2.5Vdc, 2) wide output
voltage adjustment trim of +15% and -20%, 3) zero turn-on overshoot to provide
a very clean and reliable operating environment for the system, 4) high efficiency
of up to 92%, 5) excellent thermal de-rating of up to 37Amps output at 1.8Vdc
at 70oC with 200 LFM airflow, and 6) single-board, open-frame, synchronously rectified
design.
"With the SHQ series, we again demonstrate our ability to
deliver the high current density converter in the industry standard quarter brick
footprint. BTCP is constantly redefining the standard for high-current density
DC/DC converters," said James Lau, Chief Technical Officer at BTCP. "The
SHQ series not only support customers' existing requirement, but also provide
the roadmap for future applications requiring high-current density with added
features such as zero turn-on overshoot."
The SHQ series features
multiple 7.2-mm Flat Matrix Transformer cores, which enable the high 60Amps current
density. In a typical high efficiency converter, the efficiency drops as the output
current increases in proportion to the square of the current. The Flat Matrix
Transformer enables precise sharing of output current delivered by each of the
multiple cores, thereby reducing the loss at the rectification stage.
"We
are very pleased with this product introduction as BTCP continues to bring innovative,
best-of-class power solutions to the marketplace. This SHQ series will complement
our previously announced HQ series for applications requiring high current output
with available air flow," said Kam Sihota, Vice-President of Marketing at
BTCP. "In today's economic environment, OEMs evaluate their brick requirement
based on price/performance criteria. As they evaluate price per watt and price
per ampere, they will find that BTCP offers one of the most cost effective solutions."
Samples
of the SHQ series are available to strategic customers in September with volume
production expected to start in Q4, 2002. The modules are priced at $80.00 in
1000-unit quantity.
Broadband TelCom Power (BTCP) is an innovative technology
leader in high performance power supplies, and its proprietary Flat Matrix Transformer
technology redefines technology limits in current density and thermal management.
BTCP's innovative technology is already field-proven in other high current density
products.
